Where We Operate
For 21 days, we will hike the '100 mile wilderness' of the Appalachian Trail. This is the longest stretch of wilderness in the entire 2160 mile Appalachain Trail. The trail is full of spring water, cold rivers, lakes, green forests, old growth trees, and animals such as: wolf, beavers, bear, eagles, moose and deer.
We begin north of Monson, Maine and hike north east to Baxter State Park. We will cross the Barren-Chairback mountain range, the Gulf of Hagas (grand canyon of the East), and end by summiting Mt. Katadhin (Wabanaki for "The Greatest Mountain").
There are primitive lean-tos along the trail, though we will create our own camp as to avoid other hikers or groups.
Wild Awakening is registered with the Maine Appalachian Trail Club
We will meet at the Portland, Maine International Airport with a bus and drive the participants to the trail. After the program, we will arrange times to drop the participants at the airport.
